Product Photography – Unique Lighting Setups
January 9, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
FreeThis event will be a little different than all of the other workshops we have done, or most every other local photography workshop. In fact, this one will be more of a lighting instruction, assisting attendees in deciding how best to light a variety of products (versus just showing up and shooting models). We will be shooting at least 3 different products, using whatever lighting we need to accomplish the desired outcome. Attendees can even submit photos of a specific product they would like to highlight for their own portfolio. Having product photography in your port, and the knowledge to know how to light various products, can lead to significant income for those wishing to add this type of commercial photography to their services.
There will be a fee for this workshop, despite not having a model in attendance. The reason is simply that the lights still cost money, as do the products on hand, not to mention the knowledge you will gain from attending.
For this workshop, you likely will want to bring a macro lens if you have one. Prime lenses work very well for products, especially macro lenses, such as the 100mm f2.8 (which I used to shoot the featured image). One reason for macro lenses, is you can get in close and still focus, such as shooting this Bacardi “mini”…
It is highly encouraged to bring along any product you would like to learn how to photograph properly, submitting photos ahead of time for our review and selection. We will have a limited time to shoot, lighting each one (and explaining the lighting) along the way, so we can only have a reasonable number of products available. On hand on various wine and liquor bottles, as pictured, among other items that can be available.
